China Town, Little India, Arab Street, Clare Quay
It is day 2 of your Singapore holiday. Let's call it the heritage day. This is because we are going to visit quite a number of heritage sites in Singapore in the itinerary.
Singapore is a multiracial and multi-religious country. People of different origins and beliefs live harmoniously together. It is not unusual to see Chinese temples, mosques and churches situated side-by-side next to one another. You are going to see some of these sites today.
Let's start the tour with Chinatown in the morning.

Take a MRT train ride to Chinatown (Chinatown MRT Station NE 4). If you enjoy Chinese Food, you may want to try Chinese breakfast 'dim sum' (delicacies of the Cantonese cuisine) in one of the dim sum restaurants there. You can find them in the Temple Street, Smith Street and Trengganu Street area.
This is a vicinity where you can find places of worship for different religions. Do not miss Thian Hock Keng Temple, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Sri Mariamman Temple and the Jamae Chulia Mosque.
You may also want to visit the Chinatown Heritage Centre, which showcases the history of the early Chinese immigrants settling in Singapore.
After you tour of Chinatow, go to Little India (Little India MRT Station NE7). Located in the Serangoon Road vicinity, it is exotic, permeated with intriguing sounds and aromas. You can find interesting handicrafts, jasmine garlands, colourful silk saris and Indian jewellery there. If you are adventurous with food, try the Indian food for lunch there.
There is an internationally renowned Indian-run shopping center in the vicinity. Known as Mustafa Singapore (Farrer Park MRT Station, NE8). It is the only 24-hour mall in Singapore with bargains from electronic products and kitchen appliances to groceries and clothing apparels.
Having visited the Little India, Take the bus no. 48 from in front of Tekka Mall or the Little India MRT Station (NE7), and go to Malay Heritage Centre and Arab Street. Alight at the Golden Landmark bus station along Ophir Road, and take a stroll to the Malay Heritage Centre at Kampong Glam. It is a showcase of the history and culture of the Malay community in Singapore. Do not miss the Sultan Mosque. Appreciate its massive golden dome and prayer hall. Walk across to Bussorah Street and Arab Street and Haji Lane. This is a vicinity where Arabian and Javanese merchants used to congregate. Today, you are still able to find here traditional garment, fabrics, carperts, woven baskets and other artefacts there.
In the evening, visit Clarke Quay to experience the exciting night life of Singapore. If you are in the vicinity of Arab Street, take a bus from the Park View Square bus station. Take the bus no. 32 to Clarke Quay soon. Alight at the Clarke Quay station or the Liang Court Station along River Valley Road.
There are many speciality restaurants, themed bars and clubs in Clarke Quay along the Sinagapore River. Pick a eatery you like, and enjoy a good dinner. You may take the river taxi to cruise the Singapore River, and appreciate the beauty of the river at night. Try out the dance clubs there if you find that the night is still young.
