The bus service covers the whole island, and is the most affordable means of transport. It is integrated with the MRT in bringing you to practically any corner of Singapore. The service is efficient, and the buses are clean, comfortable and air-conditioned.
Something to note about paying the bus fares. If you pay by cash (and it has to be exact), remember to collect the paper ticket at the ticket dispenser. If you are unsure of the fare, ask the bus driver or refer to the information panels at the bus stops and interchanges or the map. Taking a Taxi
Taxi would take you to any part of the country. You can hail a taxi along the road -- so long as it is safe -- accept in the Central Business District (CBD) where there are some regulations that you have to observe (see blow).
Do note that during peak hours (e.g. 7am - 9:30am and 5pm - 11pm on weekdays), rainy days or festive seasons, demand for taxis is high, and you may not be able to get a taxi whenever you like. Try booking a taxi by phone. A booking surcharge is applicable.
Taxi fares are charged by the taxi meter and based on a flag down rate and the distance traveled. The flag down rate ranges from S$2.80 - S$5.00 (depending on the type of taxi). Peak Periods, Late Night/Midnight, Public Holiday, Central Business District (CBD) and other location surcharges may also apply and vary between taxi companies. Check with the driver on the surcharges and ask for a receipt at the end of the trip.
Hailing a Taxi in the Central Business District (CBD)
Taxis are not allowed to pick up or alight passengers along roads in the CBD where buses ply between 7am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday, other than a public holiday. They are required to do so at taxi stands/stops and driveways of buildings.
